Marriage & Relationships

As you will be aware, the Methodist Church is currently having conversations about Marriage and Relationships, as outlined in the document, God in love unites us.

At the Spring Synod (25 April) we will be voting on the five resolutions outlined in the document ahead of the decision to be made at the Methodist Conference in June/July.

In order to allow people to engage in the conversation we have arranged a number of consultations across the District. To avoid the sessions being oversubscribed we require people to register via the District Website . If people have difficulty with this, please contact Heather at the District Office on (01204) 843302 or by email districtoffice06@gmail.com . If anyone needs a copy of the report it can be found on the Methodist Church website https://www.methodist.org.uk/MandR19/ or please speak to your minister or District office.

2020 will see the launch of the National Methodist Choir of Great Britain.

The choir brings together singers from across the Methodist Church in Great Britain. NMCGB is a living demonstration that the Methodist Church wasn't just born in song, but is thriving in song now, too. Open, contemporary, ambitious, hospitable, forward-facing, celebratory, and joyful in sharing the Good News through the best of music, from all musical genre.

Details of the first course will be announced in the New Year.

The Destitution Project (DP) seeks to provide a safe environment in Bolton where asylum seekers and refugees can find friendship, food and practical help.

We operate a weekly Drop-In Centre each Wednesday at the Victoria Hall and provide casework support for asylum seekers including those who are destitute.    Website: https://www.boltondp.org/

We are a thriving organisation with much work to be done.   If you are recently retired, part-time employed or otherwise can give us some time each week for 6 months or more, we’d love to hear from you!

You can arrange to visit the Drop-In on a Wednesday to get a guided tour.  There we will explain a bit more about what volunteering with us will involve.  

Currently we are looking for people to help with:

Reception – you will need to come in from 9.30am to 3.00pm each Wednesday and help with the electronic sign-in system, welcoming service users and visitors  and controlling access to the Drop-In.

General Admin - we need help on a needs basis, e.g., this might range from 2 to 5 hours in a given week to fit in with the needs of the casework team.  You will need to be able to come in on different days (M - F) as and when needed.  We will work with you to find times that suit both you and the team.

Triage and Info team - you will need to be able to come in from 9.30am to 3.30pm each Wednesday and from 9.45 to 1.15 on Fridays, as a minimum; this work is intense and can be challenging, but training and support will be provided, should you become part of this team. You will need excellent time-keeping, good IT skills and be able to work well as part of a team and on your own.  You must be able to respond throughout the week via email and on the Triage WhatsApp group. You must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 6 months.

Main Hall Lead - ideally we need someone with experience in leading a small volunteer team and working in a busy environment. This would be on the Wednesdays (9.00am to 3.00pm).

IT and computer skills - we need help on a needs basis and you will need to work for a few hours when needed.  We will work with you to find times that suit both you and the team.

An exciting opportunity to work at the Community Centre, managing volunteers and supporting the existing community projects in our brand new purpose built Church & Community Centre.The Café is one of the projects that you will manage, supporting a range of volunteers, some of whom have special needs and some with mental health challenges. The Community Centre is looking to explore new ways to meet the needs of our community, for example a parent & toddler group. We also have a woodwork and gardening group, the groups’ aims are to reduce social isolation, improve mental well being and to encourage life skills.

You will be someone who is sympathetic to the Christian ethos of this community work and who has the following abilities and skills:

  • Relate effectively with a range of volunteers.
  • Have skills & experience in working with Vulnerable Adults and Mental Health needs.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances

You will manage the café and volunteers in all aspects of legislation including Safeguarding, Health & Safety, First Aid and Food Hygiene. You will develop links with the community and local organisations.

You will need an enhanced DBS check.

Hours: 16 hours per week - 5 hours on a Tuesday and 5 Hours on a Thursday remaining hours to be worked flexibly. Salary: £7962- £8644
